Hin Hua High School’s Charcuterie Experience

On 13 March 2025, the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (SHTCA) at UOW Malaysia hosted a special Charcuterie Workshop for 25 students from Hin Hua High School. The session aimed to introduce students to innovative and culturally inclusive culinary practices through hands-on learning.

Led by Chef Alex Chia, the workshop featured the preparation of a halal-friendly version of bakgua, using chicken instead of the traditional pork. Chef Alex also highlighted the importance of adapting recipes to meet diverse dietary needs while maintaining authenticity. Students then assembled sliders using fresh, homemade buns, gaining valuable experience in food preparation, flavor pairing, and presentation.

The students showed great enthusiasm, excitement, and teamwork throughout the session. Many expressed how the experience inspired them to explore more unique culinary skills and techniques.

This workshop not only strengthened their interest in the culinary arts but also gave them a firsthand look into the professional world of hospitality. SHTCA looks forward to welcoming more young talents in future programs.
