Berbuka Kasih (Breaking Fast with Love): A Gathering of Giving was a touching evening held on 24 April 2025, hosted by the Malay Cultural Society (MCS), in collaboration with UOW Malaysia’s Student & Alumni Centre. Co-organised by the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia Students Association (IPRMSA), LEO Club, and Youth of Deen, the event brought together students, staff, and children from local orphanages for a meaningful iftar (breaking of fast) celebration.
The honoured guests of the evening were children and caretakers from Rumah Anak-Anak Yatim Asnaf (Asnaf Orphanage) and Rumah Anak Yatim Ibu Tunggal Hajah Kamariah (Hajah Kamariah Single Mother Orphanage). They were welcomed with warmth and kindness, reflecting the true spirit of Ramadan.
A poignant tazkirah (spiritual reminder) session, “Ramadhan, Suatu Kelebihan & Peluang” (Ramadan, A Blessing & an Opportunity), delivered by Ustaz Hazizul Ghouth, offered profound reflections on the spiritual opportunities Ramadan brings — a time for growth, gratitude, and generosity.
The evening was further enriched by the presence of National Journalism Laureate Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Johan Jaafar, who shared heartfelt reflections on unity and the importance of giving. Professor Dr Hiew Pang Leang, Vice-Chancellor of UOW Malaysia, echoed these sentiments in his speech, emphasising social responsibility within the university community.
A major highlight was the donation ceremony, where RM3,410 was raised and equally shared between the two orphanages. This act of kindness was made possible through the generosity of students, staff, and the public.
From a lively quiz to duit raya (festive money) giveaways and joyful photo booth moments, the evening was a celebration of compassion, connection, and shared humanity — a truly memorable night in the spirit of Ramadan.
