Branding Lessons Served Fresh by Captain Oats

By UOW Malaysia

What does it take to keep a brand relevant for over 60 years and expand into 33 countries?

On 22 July 2026, students from the Diploma in Mass Communication, Diploma in Business, Diploma in Information Technology, and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Public Relations programs participated in an engaging session organised as part of the Industry Adjunct Speaker Series.

The sharing was delivered by Ms Yvonne Yap, Assistant Marketing Manager of Federal Oats Mills Sdn. Bhd. (FOM), the company behind the iconic Captain Oats brand.

The session explored how FOM continues to sustain brand relevance through digital marketing, content creation, influencer campaigns, community engagement, CSR, and sustainability initiatives.

Students also learned about the skills employers value in today’s digital economy — from creative thinking and consumer insights to social media management, storytelling, and content creation.

It was a meaningful session that connected classroom learning with real‑world industry practices, highlighting the importance of innovation, adaptability, and continuous learning in building future‑ready careers.
