On 15 April 2025, UOW Malaysia Glenmarie came alive with Cahaya Warisan, Sinar Raya—a vibrant celebration blending World Heritage Day and Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Themed Heritage Lights, Raya Shines, the event united students, staff, and communities through a colourful tapestry of culture, tradition, and festive joy.
Kicking off with the elegant Sarawakian Leleng dance, the celebration set the tone for a day rich in heritage. A thought-provoking forum explored how education bridges cultural preservation and sustainable development, aligning with global SDGs.
A highlight was a soulful Sape performance by Dato’ Mohammad Medan bin Abdullah, Chairman, UOWMKDU Board of Governors, reminding all of Malaysia’s deep cultural roots. The Atrium buzzed with energy as students performed traditional dances and music, from Zapin, a traditional Malay dance form, to lion dance, showcasing the nation’s rich diversity.
Interactive workshops offered hands-on experiences in Batik Canting, Chinese calligraphy, and traditional instruments, while Raya delicacies, nostalgic games, and festive booths added warmth and cheer.
Aligned with SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), the event inspired participants to cherish, preserve, and continue the traditions that shape our collective identity—promoting a future where culture and sustainability go hand in hand.
More than just a celebration, Cahaya Warisan, Sinar Raya was a living expression of unity, cultural pride, and UOW Malaysia’s commitment to education through cultural immersion.
