Communication and Creative Arts Students Shines in Social Impact Contest

Students from the Glenmarie Campus of the School of Communication and Creative Arts (SCCA), UOW Malaysia, have achieved remarkable success at We R Wira Season 4, securing both the Second Runner Up and an Honourable Mention among 41 submissions from four participating institutions.

The Golden Wira Awards, held on 24 July 2026 at INTI International College Subang, marked the culmination of this nationwide initiative organised by Centriq PR, a Malaysian public relations consultancy. Designed to empower young changemakers, We R Wira encourages students to uncover stories of everyday heroes and align their narratives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Season 4 saw submissions covering 12 of the 17 SDGs, with strong emphasis on Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), Life on Land (SDG 15), and Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10).

UOW Malaysia’s project “Beyond the Sirens” earned the Second Runner Up award, while “Colouring Lives” received an Honourable Mention. These achievements highlight the ability of SCCA students to translate classroom learning into purposeful communication initiatives that inspire real social impact.

The competition brought together students from UOW Malaysia, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Kampar, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, and INTI International College Subang. Participants developed industry relevant skills in strategic storytelling, stakeholder engagement, sustainability communications, and cross sector collaboration, while gaining valuable exposure to professional expectations.

For SCCA students, the experience was both transformative and practical. By researching, developing, and presenting their stories, they strengthened their creative thinking, teamwork, and communication skills, while building confidence in applying academic knowledge to real world contexts.

This success reflects UOW Malaysia’s commitment to nurturing purposeful communicators who can identify shared values, foster meaningful collaborations, and amplify stories that contribute to positive change.
