On 9 August 2025, the Seminar Kerjaya Asnaf MAIWP (MAIWP Asnaf Career Seminar) Series 3 & 4 brought energy, curiosity, and hope to the halls of UOW Malaysia (UOWM). Organised in collaboration with the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan, MAIWP), the event welcomed 61 students and their parents, marking another milestone in the MAIWP Asnaf Development Program 2025.
Asnaf refers to the eight groups of people eligible to receive zakat (compulsory almsgiving in Islam), including the poor, the needy, and others in need of support — a concept aimed at uplifting communities through financial aid, education, and skills development. In Malaysia, institutions like MAIWP support asnaf through financial aid, education, and skills training to help them achieve self-reliance and a better future.
The day began with a warm welcome at the main entrance, followed by a general briefing and program talks. Syufa Azuan bin Mohd Shoib (Senior Executive, National Marketing) opened with an overview of opportunities at UOWM, while Khor Bee Hua (Academic Department Head, School of Nursing & Allied Health) captivated the audience with insights into nursing careers. Rubbie Fong Jia Yean (Program Leader, School of Social Sciences) then shared the fulfilling prospects of shaping young minds through early childhood education.
By mid-morning, participants embarked on a campus tour, exploring the Library, Computer Lab, Early Childhood Simulation Room, Nursing Simulation Ward, and Accommodation — each stop offering a glimpse into the vibrant student life and cutting-edge facilities available at UOWM. The group photo captured not just faces, but a shared sense of ambition and possibility.
The day concluded at MAIWP Professional College (Kolej Profesional MAIWP, KPMAIWP), where Mohd Rafie Bin Zakaria (Deputy Head, Asnaf Development Division, MAIWP) officiated the closing ceremony alongside Professor Dr Hon Wei Min (Principal, UOW Malaysia College) and Rohayu Binti Yusoff (Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Academic & Research), KPMAIWP). In his address, Mohd Rafie thanked UOWM’s management for their unwavering support in realising the program’s mission — to empower asnaf students with the skills, confidence, and pathways needed to transform their futures.
With interview screenings and sponsorship shortlisting as the next steps, the seminar ended on a high note — a day where aspirations took root and possibilities came alive.
