Design Students Discover Future Living at Aspen Vision City

By UOW Malaysia

On 3 April 2026, Interior Design and Interior Architecture students from UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College embarked on an inspiring industry visit to the Aspen Vision City Gallery, Batu Kawan. Organised by the Career & Placement Centre, the visit gave students a front-row seat to the dynamic world of integrated township development and contemporary urban living.

Welcomed by the Chief Operating Officer of Aspen, Ms Celienne Cheah, students were introduced to Aspen’s long-term masterplan for Batu Kawan, learning how strategic planning and innovative concepts are shaping sustainable, future-ready communities. The session continued with Ms Shyan Saw (Team Leader, Design), who presented the Mezon scale model and guided students through the show units at Mezon @ Park Enclave. Here, students explored spatial planning, material selection, and design applications, gaining a clearer understanding of how aesthetics, functionality, and user experience come together in modern residential spaces.

Adding depth to the experience, Ts. Vanessa Serbastian, Academic Head of the Department of Built Environment, hosted a podcast interview with Ms Cheah and Ms Saw. The discussion highlighted Japanese design principles, the significance of Aspen Vision City’s integrated masterplan, and how thoughtful interior strategies enhance lifestyle quality through efficient use of space.

The visit proved to be more than just a tour — it was a hands-on learning journey that allowed students to connect classroom theories with real-world practice. They walked away with valuable insights into large-scale development strategies, sustainable community planning, and evolving design trends, strengthening their readiness to contribute to the future of urban living.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Ms Celienne Cheah, Ms Shyan Saw, Ms Lim Sim Hui (Manager, Corporate Communications), and Ms Joan Chang Gim Foong (Senior Executive, Corporate Communications) for their warm hospitality and generous sharing, which made the visit both enriching and inspiring.
