Engineering Students Gain Practical Insights Across Diverse Sectors

By UOW Malaysia

Engineering students from the University of Wollongong Malaysia took learning beyond the classroom through two enriching industry visits in late November and early December 2025, gaining first-hand exposure to engineering applications across vastly different sectors.

On 28 November 2025, a group of 9 staff and students visited the Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan (ASWARA) in Kuala Lumpur. The visit introduced students to the integration of engineering and creative arts, particularly in stage production and film. Participants explored professional lighting systems, audio-visual technologies and film production facilities, including a behind-the-scenes look at ASWARA’s control room, where sound, lighting and visuals are synchronised in real time. The experience highlighted how engineering principles underpin artistic excellence and open pathways into interdisciplinary careers.

This was followed by a visit on 2 December 2025, where 30 engineering students toured RapidKL at Menara Prasarana, Petaling Jaya, with a focus on the Kelana Jaya LRT Line. Through guided tours and briefings by industry professionals, students gained insights into public transport operations, safety systems, maintenance processes and innovative technologies that support urban mobility. The visit reinforced the critical role of sustainable, efficient transport systems in building smarter and greener cities.

Together, both visits provided students with valuable real-world perspectives on how engineering knowledge is applied across diverse industries—from public transportation to the creative sector—while inspiring them to explore future careers that combine technical expertise with innovation and societal impact.
