The carnival was officiated by YAM Tengku Datin Paduka Setia Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, a respected environmental advocate, who underscored the critical importance of collective effort in building a sustainable future.

The Climate Action Carnival: A Festival of Innovation

Global Climate Action 2025 was structured around three key objectives designed to ensure the event achieved a lasting impact:

  1. To highlight the urgency and impact of climate change through hands-on learning and comprehensive community engagement.
  2. To foster productive partnerships between UOW Malaysia, industry partners, and external stakeholders to develop innovative climate solutions.
  3. To demonstrate sustainable practices and encourage lifelong, eco-conscious behaviour among all participants.

At the core of Global Climate Action 2025 was the Global Climate Action Carnival, a vibrant festival of ideas, action and innovation. Throughout the week, visitors engaged in a wide range of interactive and informative activities including:

  1. Interactive Green Exhibitions: Showcasing the latest in eco-friendly technology and sustainable practices.
  2. Hands-on Workshops: Providing practical skills for waste reduction, energy conservation and sustainable living.
  3. Talks by Experts: Offering insights into the urgency and impact of climate change from leading academics and industry professionals.
  4. Showcases of Eco-Technology and Local Climate Solutions: Highlighting community-driven initiatives in renewable energy and waste management.

“Understanding the climate crisis is just the beginning, real change happens when we work together, turn awareness into action and make sustainability as a part of everything we do,” said Prof. Dr. Hiew Pang Leang, Vice-Chancellor of University of Wollongong Malaysia, during his welcoming speech.

UOW Malaysia successfully engaged a diverse range of participants including students, educators, local communities, NGOs, policymakers and the public in this transformative journey from awareness to action. The university remains committed to providing a platform that moves beyond dialogue to deliver tangible change as demonstrated by the outcomes fostered during the event.
