Three aspiring students from UOW Malaysia’s School of Engineering, Glenmarie campus, stepped into the future of technology at the Selangor Human Resource Development Centre (SHRDC), Shah Alam, on 26 August 2026. The fully funded masterclass, sponsored by the State Government of Selangor through the Unit Pemberdayaan Pekerja Selangor (UPPS), offered a rare opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in collaborative robotics and AI‑driven teleoperation.

Representing UOW Malaysia were Teo Yong Yi, Jeffrey Chua, and Yeak Li Ying, who immersed themselves in a full day of theory, practice, and live demonstrations. From installing Anaconda/Miniconda and assembling the SO100 robotic arm to mastering Leader‑Follower control, the students experienced robotics in action. The training expanded further into humanoid robotics, camera calibration, and the emerging field of Embodied AI, highlighting how data collection and robotic demonstrations fuel intelligent automation.

Guided by SHRDC facilitators Dr Reuben Lim Yaw Hui and Mr Muhammad Danial Matin, participants explored the intersection of robotics and AI, gaining insights into how these technologies are reshaping industries worldwide. The programme concluded with a certificate presentation officiated by YB Tuan Papparaidu A/L Veraman, EXCO Sumber Manusia & Pembasmian Kemiskinan Negeri Selangor, underscoring the state’s commitment to nurturing future‑ready talent.

This industry‑focused training not only complemented the students’ academic knowledge but also strengthened UOW Malaysia’s mission to produce engineers equipped with practical, industry‑relevant skills. By bridging classroom learning with real‑world applications, the School of Engineering continues to prepare graduates to thrive in the fast‑evolving fields of robotics, automation, and intelligent systems.
