The UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College Industry Adjunct Speaker Series brought 58 students together on 16 March for a masterclass with Mr Richard Oon, National Tax Director of SW TY Teoh (a member firm of ShineWing International, ranked among the Top 20 global accounting networks). His session, “Business & Finance 101 for Entrepreneurs and Technopreneurs,” bridged the gap between academic theory and real-world business advisory.

Drawing on over 30 years of experience, Mr Oon guided students through the financial fundamentals that underpin business success. Key takeaways included interpreting financial statements, understanding the importance of accrual accounting as the industry standard, and gaining clarity on depreciation and tax obligations. Students also developed a deeper appreciation of how finance supports business operations and meets stakeholder expectations.
