From 3 to 5 April 2026, a group of students from the Bachelor of Hospitality program, majoring in Tourism Management at UOW Malaysia, embarked on an unforgettable educational journey to Pahang National Park, where learning came vividly to life beyond the classroom.
Bringing together 9 students and 2 lecturers, the trip offered a unique opportunity to explore the real-world impacts of tourism on the environment and local communities. Set against the lush backdrop of one of Malaysia’s oldest rainforests, students engaged in immersive activities that deepened their understanding of sustainability, conservation, and responsible tourism.
A highlight of the experience was the night jungle walk, where students discovered the rainforest from an entirely new perspective. Surrounded by the sounds and sights of nocturnal wildlife, the walk sparked curiosity and appreciation for the ecosystem’s rich biodiversity. The adventure continued with jungle trekking and rapid shooting, challenging participants both physically and mentally while strengthening teamwork and resilience.
Equally impactful was the visit to an Orang Asli village, where students gained valuable insight into indigenous culture, traditions, and sustainable ways of living. This meaningful exchange encouraged respect for heritage and a deeper awareness of the interconnectedness between communities and nature.
Through expert briefings, sustainability activities, and hands-on experiences, students were able to connect academic concepts with real-world applications. This educational trip not only enhanced students’ knowledge of tourism and environmental stewardship but also fostered lasting friendships and memorable experiences—proving that sometimes, the best classroom is the natural world itself.
