Malaysian Chef Darren Chin Honoured with French Knighthood

By UOW Malaysia

We are delighted to extend our heartfelt congratulations to celebrated Malaysian Chef Darren Chin, an alumnus of UOW Malaysia (formerly known as KDU), who has been conferred the prestigious title of Chevalier de l’Ordre du Mérite Agricole (Knight in the Order of Agricultural Merit) by the French Republic.

Awarded on 9 June 2025 at a ceremony hosted by the French Ambassador in Kuala Lumpur, Chef Chin becomes only the second Malaysian chef ever to receive this honour. Established in 1883, the Order recognises outstanding contributions to agriculture and the culinary arts, placing him in the company of luminaries such as Louis Pasteur and Jacques Pépin.

This knighthood is a well-deserved tribute to Chef Chin’s dedication, creativity, and passion. It also marks a landmark moment for Malaysian culinary arts, inspiring chefs across the nation to elevate their craft.

Congratulations, Chef Darren Chin! Your unwavering commitment to culinary excellence continues to shine a brilliant light on Malaysia’s emerging food scene—and on UOW Malaysia’s legacy of producing world-class talent.
