Students from the University of Wollongong Malaysia’s (UOW Malaysia) School of Communication and Creative Arts emerged as champions in the New CSR Idea category at the UUM Sintok CSR Summer Camp 2026, held from 12 to 15 June 2026 at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Kedah.
Representing the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia Student Association (IPRMSA), UOW Malaysia Chapter, students from the Bachelor of Communication (Hons) and Bachelor of Communication (Honours) Public Relations programmes took part in the four‑day programme, which brought together IPRMSA chapters from 10 universities across the country.
Organised by the IPRMSA Universiti Utara Malaysia Chapter, with the support of the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (IPRM), the programme aimed to strengthen collaboration among future public relations practitioners, promote community engagement through corporate social responsibility (CSR), and cultivate leadership and professional development.
One of the programme’s highlights was the CSR Pitching Competition, where participants presented innovative CSR ideas and completed CSR projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
UOW Malaysia’s Jom Digital team emerged as Champion in the New CSR Idea category. Team members Eng Jhun Hao, Rachel Anjali Pereira, and Cynthia Tay Zi Qin proposed a CSR initiative to improve digital literacy among senior citizens, addressing challenges such as limited digital confidence, fear of technology, and accessibility barriers. The project supports SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by promoting digital inclusion and empowering older adults to confidently access essential online services.
Another UOW Malaysia team presented Rescue the World, One Meal at a Time in the Completed CSR Project category. Team members Wong Yen An, Goh Feng Yuan, and Sherllyn Sephrenia Sunny Anak Sherman showcased their initiative to reduce food waste through education and awareness. The project highlighted issues surrounding surplus food, inefficient distribution, overproduction, consumer behaviour, and limited awareness of food waste, while promoting responsible consumption practices in support of SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
