Radical Collaboration for Effective Teamwork: Driving Support Staff Synergy

By UOW Malaysia

On May 30th and 31st 2025, UOW Malaysia Staff, comprising 42 executive and senior executive-level support staff from various departments and schools participated in a dynamic and impactful two-day, one-night team-building event held at 101 Resort & Villa, Janda Baik, Pahang. The session was led by the Head of Human Resources, under the theme “Radical Collaboration for Effective Teamwork,” focusing on strengthening cross-departmental collaboration and enhancing communication among the UOW Malaysia staff.

The main objectives of the team building were to:

  • Foster effective cross-functional teamwork
  • Improve communication flow and reduce breakdowns
  • Reinforce the recognition and practice of shared values
  • Strengthen the collegial bond among operational staff

The team achieved its goals by blending formal and informal sessions. Structured discussions helped identify communication challenges, realign team values, and explore how to embody those values daily. These reflective moments built a stronger, more cohesive support system.

Complementing the formal sessions was a vibrant lineup of outdoor and indoor activities designed to challenge, energise, and unify. The staff enjoyed engaging games such as Combat Archery, Gems of the Olympics, and Water Play at the pool and river. A series of indoor challenge games also tested their teamwork, agility, and creativity. Participants were divided into six teams, each competing in friendly rivalry. After a spirited display of collaboration and enthusiasm, Team 4 emerged as the overall champion.

The event was not just about winning or fun—it was about building stronger bridges between people who work tirelessly behind the scenes. As the team-building event concluded, the sense of camaraderie, mutual respect, and renewed energy was palpable, setting a positive tone for future collaboration.
