Special Tribute and Celebrations: UOW Malaysia Convocation Highlights Across Two Campuses!

UOW Malaysia recently celebrated the achievements of its graduates with convocation ceremonies at the Glenmarie Campus Auditorium and the Setia Spice Convention Centre in Penang. This year, 1,452 students from the University of Wollongong Malaysia graduated across both the Glenmarie and Penang campuses. The convocation in Selangor, held on 16 November, conferred diplomas and degrees on 554 graduands in two sessions. At the Penang campus, 275 graduands received their scrolls. The Chancellor, Datuk Seri Michael Yam, presented the graduands with their scrolls during the ceremonies.

Chancellor Datuk Seri (Dr) Michael Yam Kong Choy was accompanied by Dato Mohammad Medan Abdullah, Chairman of the UOW Malaysia Board of Governors, Mr John M. Green, Chairman of the UOWGE Board of Directors, and members of the stage party from partner universities and UOW Malaysia staff. A video message from Professor John Dewar AO, Interim Vice-Chancellor and President of UOW Australia, was also broadcast during the event.

The highlight of the convocation in Selangor campus was the conferment of the prestigious Fellow of the University of Wollongong Award to the Chancellor of UOW Malaysia, Datuk Seri (Dr) Michael Yam Kong Choy. On behalf of the University of Wollongong, Mr John M Green presented the award certificate and assisted the Chancellor to put on the special academic robe bestowed by UOW.

In addition to these achievements, several outstanding graduands were recognised for their exceptional performance. The valedictorians included Ching Yen Jee, a Bachelor of Communication (Hons) graduand from the Selangor campus, and Foon Jun Xiang, a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Media Production graduand from the Penang campus. Celine Low Sum Yin, a Selangor campus graduand of the Bachelor of Culinary Management (Hons) program, was honoured with the Distinguished Graduate Award.

Across both campuses, 36 top-performing students were recognised with Top/Best Student Awards, while 28 were recipients of Partner University Awards, and 19 were awarded Industry Excellence Awards. Additionally, 9 graduands were honoured with Special Awards presented by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
