A recent event at UOW Malaysia highlighted breast cancer awareness, bringing together students, staff, and the wider community. The initiative, spearheaded by the university, featured an insightful talk from the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA), arming attendees with crucial knowledge on early detection and self-examination techniques.
The session was made even more impactful by the moving testimonies of breast cancer survivors, offering both inspiration and invaluable insights. Practical learning was a key element, with dedicated demonstration booths providing hands-on guidance on performing breast self-examinations (BSE). For those seeking more personal support, confidential counselling sessions were also available.
The event attracted encouraging participation, with 61 individuals actively engaging in the informative sessions. This commitment to community well-being extends beyond the immediate impact. By actively engaging in public health initiatives like this, UOW Malaysia showcases its dedication to social responsibility, a factor increasingly valued by prospective students, particularly those considering programs such as the Diploma in Healthcare Service. The event also provided a valuable platform for current students to hone essential skills in leadership, teamwork, and communication through their involvement in planning and execution.
