A wave of celebration swept through the School of Communication and Creative Arts (SCCA) at UOW Malaysia (Glenmarie campus), as students proudly took home both 1st and 3rd place in the impactful initiative “We.R.Wira.” Launched in May 2023 in collaboration with Centriq PR, this YouTube series aims to spotlight everyday heroes in Malaysia, fostering positivity and unity within the nation’s diverse communities. By showcasing selfless acts of kindness, the project inspires a culture of compassion across the country.
Incorporating “We.R.Wira” into their final project provided SCCA students with invaluable hands-on experience, preparing them for careers in the industry. “We.R.Wira was born out of our hope for a peaceful and united Malaysia, securing a bright future for generations to come,” said Centriq PR Managing Director, Ms Jacqueline Arnolds.
The second season of “We.R.Wira” saw participation from five universities, including UOW Malaysia, submitting 16 impressive video entries. SCCA’s talented team, led by lecturer Murina Pawanteh, contributed five videos, with their entry “Within Our Own” clinching 1st place, while “Empowering Lives: Good Samaritan Home” earned 3rd.
“Within Our Own,” created by Tan Jun Le, Thanesswaran, Simon Lih, and Leonard Ho, highlights the impactful work of the Persatuan Kebajikan dan Kesihatan Umum Malaysia (PKKUM) in Chow Kit, which supports marginalised communities through services like HIV screening and counseling. The video powerfully illustrates PKKUM’s role in improving health outcomes and empowering vulnerable populations.
Meanwhile, “Empowering Lives: Good Samaritan Home,” produced by Shuki Lim Chang and Winny Lim Yi Rou, honours the late Albert Ong and his wife YM Ong, who founded the home in 1999 to care for orphaned and vulnerable children.
SCCA takes immense pride in their students’ achievements, reflecting a deep commitment to community support through powerful storytelling.
