Technology Foundership Program Ignites Future Tech Founders

By UOW Malaysia

On 13 April 2026, 48 students and 5 staff from UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College — from the Department of Engineering, School of Hospitality, Tourism & Culinary Arts, Department of Computing, Department of Mass Communication, Centre for Pre‑University Studies, School of Business, and the Department of Built Environment — joined an inspiring online session on SPARK500 – A Technology Foundership Program, led by Ms Amni Nasuha Abdul Basir, Executive Program & IHLs Relations, Ecosystem Development at Digital Penang.

The session introduced a six-month program (May–November 2026) designed to transform Malaysian students under 25 into the next generation of tech founders. Participants will gain hands-on experience in business model development, prototype (MVP) creation, marketing execution, and AI-powered coding, while also completing real entrepreneurial milestones such as company registration and business bank setup.

Ms Amni highlighted the pathway to the Campus X Challenge, a competition where student startups pitch their ideas for recognition and support. Top performing teams may progress into the prestigious 1516 Incubator — a two-year program offering mentorship, co-working space, grants, and international exposure to help young entrepreneurs grow their businesses.

The session gave students a vivid picture of the entrepreneurial journey, showing how bold ideas can be transformed into real businesses with global impact. It reflects UOW Malaysia’s strong commitment to equipping students with the skills, confidence, and innovative mindset needed to thrive as future-ready technopreneurs.
