Australia Day was celebrated in Malaysia on 22 January 2025, marking 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations. The event, hosted by the Australian High Commission at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, was officiated by Australian High Commissioner HE Danielle Heinecke, with Malaysian Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail as the guest of honour. Also gracing the event was KDU Law School alumna YB Hannah Yeoh, the Minister of Youth and Sports of Malaysia. Over 1,500 guests from government, business, alumni and civil society attended the celebration.
In her remarks, Heinecke highlighted the strength of the Australia-Malaysia bilateral relationship and Australia’s continued commitment to enhancing ties with Malaysia in key areas such as trade, education, and culture.
UOW Malaysia, a proud sponsor of the event, was represented by key members of the top management, including Chancellor Datuk Seri (Dr) Michael Yam Kong Choy, Chairman of the Board of Governors Dato Mohammad Medan, UOW Malaysia CEO/ CEO UOWGE Asia Ms Jennifer Ng Glok-Hong, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Hiew Pang Leang, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr Hon Wei Min, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Mr Shanker Sathivellu, Mr. Gabriel Lau, Principal of UOW Malaysia KDU College and Legal Counsel & Head of CEO’s Office Dr Rajeswari Kanniah. The university showcased its academic programs at a dedicated booth, attracting interest from guests eager to explore opportunities for academic exchange and collaboration.
