UOW Malaysia Celebrates Ramadan Through Community, Learning and Hospitality

By UOW Malaysia

The School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (SHTCA) at UOW Malaysia brought the spirit of Ramadan to life through a series of meaningful initiatives that combined community engagement with hands-on student learning.

On 27 February 2026, around 60 students and staff came together to organise the SHTCA Bubur Lambuk Distribution 2026. Working as a team, students prepared and packed 1,000 portions of the traditional Malaysian dish for the UOW Malaysia community, while 200 additional packs were distributed to worshippers at Masjid An-Nur Temasya Glenmarie, Shah Alam, following Friday prayers. The initiative reflected the values of generosity, compassion and community service during the holy month.

Continuing the Ramadan celebrations, students also organised the SHTCA Ramadan Iftar Charity 2026 on 12 March 2026 at the Saveur & Mirabelle Restaurant at the Glenmarie campus. The event welcomed 90 guests, supported by 50 student committee members, and was attended by distinguished guests including Dato Mohammad Medan bin Abdullah (Chairman, Board of Governors of UOW Malaysia), Professor Dr Hiew Pang Leang (Vice Chancellor, UOW Malaysia), and Mr Shanker Sathivellu (Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), UOW Malaysia).

Culinary Arts students prepared a diverse buffet featuring dishes such as Nasi Hujan Panas, Ayam Goreng Berempah and Roti Jala with Chicken Curry, while Hotel Management students oversaw service operations and guest experience. The event not only celebrated the cultural significance of breaking fast but also provided students with valuable real-world hospitality experience.

Together, these initiatives highlighted SHTCA’s commitment to nurturing professional skills while fostering cultural appreciation and community spirit among students.
