UOW Malaysia is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Aavie Ng Shi Chuan, a Year 2 student in the Bachelor of Culinary Management (Hons) program, who represented Malaysia at the 12th IIHM (International Institute of Hotel Management) International Young Chef Olympiad 2026. The prestigious competition was held from 1–6 February 2026 across several cities in India, culminating in the Grand Finale in Kolkata.
Competing alongside talented student chefs from 40 countries, Aavie demonstrated outstanding skill, creativity and composure under intense international competition. Her impressive performance secured her a place among the Top 10 Finalists in the world, a significant accomplishment at one of the most prestigious global platforms for young culinary talents.
Aavie’s excellence was further recognised with three major category awards:
These accolades reflect not only her technical mastery and attention to detail, but also the high standards of professionalism expected in global culinary competitions.
Aavie was mentored by UOW Malaysia’s Chef Lecturer, Alex Chia Sheng Da, whose guidance and dedication played a key role in preparing her for the demanding challenges of the Olympiad. Together, they showcased the calibre of culinary education and training nurtured at UOW Malaysia.
The 2026 edition of the Olympiad centred on the theme “Preserving and Promoting the World’s Global Culinary Heritage with AI,” bringing together young chefs in what is often described as a “Culinary United Nations.” Participants shared their national cuisines, exchanged ideas, and explored how modern technology can help preserve traditional culinary practices while advancing sustainability.
Congratulations to Aavie and Chef Alex on this outstanding achievement and for flying the flag for Malaysia and UOW Malaysia on the international stage.
