Students from the University of Wollongong Malaysia (Glenmarie Campus) and UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College have demonstrated exceptional skill in cloud computing, with ten students placing in the top 40 out of 168 participants at the recent Inter-Australian University Cloud Computing Tournament.
The tournament, launched by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (AUSTRADE) with support from Amazon Web Services (AWS) Malaysia, aimed to promote awareness of AWS Cloud Quest and highlight the talent within Australian universities operating in Malaysia. On 18 March 2025, participants were challenged to complete cloud assignments to solve practical problems.
The competition featured 168 contestants from five Australian university campuses in Malaysia: Curtin University Malaysia, Monash University Malaysia, Swinburne University Malaysia, University of Wollongong Malaysia, and UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College.
With the final results in, University of Wollongong Malaysia student Enoch Leong Qi Cong, a final-year Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) student, secured 4th place on the final leaderboard.

Notably, six Diploma in Information Technology students from the Penang campus rose to the challenge and performed admirably against predominantly undergraduate participants. Dr Wong Khang Siang, Head of the Computing Department, expressed immense pride in the students’ performance, stating they had proven themselves worthy of praise.

Ts. Dr Khoo Li Jing, who mentored the undergraduate students, complimented them on the valuable learning experience gained from the tournament. He encouraged them to continue standing out—particularly with potential industry employers like AWS, Maxis Communications, and Boost Holdings, who recognise such achievements.
