On 12 January 2026, the Department of Mass Communication at UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College welcomed a delegation of 30 students and staff from Xi’an University, China, for an engaging academic exchange aimed at fostering cross-cultural learning and collaboration. The event was also attended by Dr Gwee Sai Ling, General Manager of Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC). Representing Xi’an University were Zhang Bo, Deputy Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication, and Yang Lin, Lecturer from the same school.

The visit provided a valuable platform for meaningful dialogue, knowledge sharing, and mutual learning between the two institutions. A key highlight of the session was a series of academic presentations and student-led sharing that showcased the department’s dynamic, industry-driven approach to teaching and learning.

Petra Boudville, a BA (Hons) in Media Production student at UOW Malaysia KDU Penang, delivered an insightful presentation on hands-on learning and the importance of practical exposure in shaping competent media practitioners. She emphasised how students are immersed in real-world production environments, equipping them with both technical expertise and creative confidence.

Meanwhile, Avivea Tang from the BA (Hons) in Public Relations program at UOW Malaysia KDU Penang spoke about learning through excellence, highlighting how academic rigour, industry engagement, experiential projects, and award-winning achievements collectively prepare students for professional success.

The session also featured contributions from Diploma in Mass Communication students, who shared their personal learning journeys and the transformative experiences gained throughout their studies.

The interactive session was marked by lively discussions, thoughtful questions, and enthusiastic exchanges between students from UOW Malaysia and Xi’an University. The dialogue offered valuable insights into different educational approaches while reinforcing a shared commitment to excellence in Mass Communication education.
