Suguna. M is a lecturer and Industrial Placement Coordinator in the School of Hospitality, Tourism, and Culinary Arts at UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College, Malaysia since 2014. From September 2013 to April 2014, she worked as a Tutor and Research Assistant at the School of Industrial Technology at the University Science Malaysia. She has published various journal papers and one of her research works was accepted in the Q2 journal of Food-Borne Disease. She has also attended and published her research papers in local and international conference proceedings. She was the principal researcher for the KDU Internal grant in 2019.

She has wide industrial linkages with local and world top hotel brands including Marriot groups, Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Hyatt Hotel Corporation and InterContinental Hotel Groups (IHG). Many of her students was placed at various countries apart from Malaysia such as Dubai, New Zealand, Maldives, Singapore, China, Thailand, India, Indonesia, Vietnam and United States.

She has organized a numerable career talks and job fairs by inviting industrial expert from Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary field since 2014 to present. She has coordinated the MOU signing between SHTCA with Double Tree by Hilton hotel in year 2019 and recently with Courtyard hotel by Marriot in March 2021. On last year 2020, she created a video with 16 hospitality student to show support towards motivating hotel industry upon devastating effect due of Covid -19 pandemic and recognized by YB Datuk Dr. Jeffrey G. Kitingan, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia.

The future plan is to involve in food product development while sustaining healthy and nutritious food for future mankind.

2021

  • Gold medal for ‘Best Product Development’ and Gold Medal for ‘Special Award of Best Video’ in Penang International Invention, Innovation and Design 2021.
  • Academic category – ‘Gold Medal for Best Product’, Double Gold Award (Innovation Project- Science and Technology), and the Most liked Virtual Presentation on YouTube in the International Science And Social Science Innovation Competition (ISIC III) 2021.
  • Student-academic category – Bronze Medal in the ISIC III 2021 competition. She was complimented with the award for inventing Frozen Catfish Fingers with local ingredients.

  • Certified Hospitality Trainer (CHT) under American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI).
  • Panel Judge in Science Fair for Young Children since 2012 to 2018.
  • Author in Apucen Bulletin 2021, USM, writing on UOW students community engagement and involvement.
  • Special Appearance Judge for Cooking Competition at Sunway hotel from 2018 to 2020 and Double Tree by Hilton in year 2019.
