Choosing a career path can be overwhelming for students, especially when there are multiple routes to professional success. To support informed decision‑making, UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College hosted a career and professional development sharing session on “Routes to Becoming a Chartered Accountant in Malaysia” on 20 July 2026, delivered by Ms Izzatul Nabbila Zulkiflee, Executive, Competency Framework & Development, Membership Operations Division, Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA).
The session was attended by Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) students, who gained a comprehensive overview of the accounting profession and the opportunities available to those pursuing the Chartered Accountant designation. They explored the different pathways, whether through recognised accounting degree programmes, professional qualifications such as ACCA, ICAEW, CIMA, CPA Australia, or the MIA Qualifying Examination route.
What resonated most with students was the realisation that accounting extends far beyond number‑crunching. Today’s accountants are strategic business partners, financial leaders, consultants, entrepreneurs, and decision‑makers who contribute across industries and sectors. The session highlighted diverse career pathways in public practice, commerce and industry, academia, and the public sector.
Through this engagement, students were encouraged to:
Industry and professional body engagement remains an important part of our commitment to preparing graduates for successful careers. By connecting students with practitioners and professional organisations, we provide valuable exposure to real‑world expectations and career opportunities.
