ACE Program Equips Students for their Career Journey

By UOW Malaysia

More than 160 UOW Malaysia students took a proactive step towards their future careers through the ACE: The Internship-to-Career Algorithm initiative organised by the Career & Placement Centre (CPC) on 6 & 11 February 2026 at the Batu Kawan campus. Designed to prepare students for internship applications and employment, the program combined industry insights with practical training.

The first session on 6 February 2026 welcomed 107 students and featured recruitment professionals from Jabil Global Business Services Penang — Ms Wendy Foo (Lead Recruiter, Talent Acquisition), Ms Melissa Khong (Project Coordinator, Talent Acquisition) and Mr George Chong (Talent Acquisition) — who shared valuable guidance on crafting impactful résumés, understanding employer expectations and standing out in a competitive job market. One student shared that the session was especially helpful as it was their first time drafting a résumé, allowing them to quickly identify several mistakes highlighted by the speaker. The student also noted that the workshop was particularly engaging due to the speaker’s interactive approach, where the audience was actively involved rather than simply listening to a presentation, describing the session as enjoyable, insightful and highly beneficial.

The program continued on 11 February 2026, where 54 students participated in a hands-on résumé review and mock interview session conducted in collaboration with Lifework HR Services. The session was led by invited guests from Lifework HR Services — Gary Ong Khang Herng (General Manager), Nur Izzatul Afiqah Binti Hisham (Senior Staffing Consultant), Nurul Soleha Binti Mohd Shafie (Senior Staffing Consultant), and Nur Syazween Binti Zainol Abidin (Talent Acquisition Executive). Students received personalised feedback and practised interview techniques to strengthen their confidence ahead of internship applications. A participating student remarked that despite the strong turnout, they still had the opportunity to consult one of the mentors present, who provided valuable advice and specific, actionable suggestions to improve their résumé. The ability to make edits on the spot was particularly helpful, ensuring that important details were not overlooked.

The strong participation and enthusiastic engagement — with many students arriving prepared with printed résumés — reflected a growing commitment among students to professional development and career readiness.
