Teamwork took centre stage at UOW Malaysia on 30 September 2025, when 27 Culinary and Hospitality students and two lecturers came together for an unforgettable LEGO Challenge Workshop led by Mr John A. Daly from the Swiss Education Group.

The workshop kicked off with a buzz of excitement and curiosity. After a warm welcome and introduction of the guest facilitator, participants were divided into five teams and presented with an unusual challenge: to construct a Lego structure — without speaking a single word.

What followed was a fascinating display of creativity and cooperation. With verbal communication off the table, students relied on gestures, facial expressions and intuition to work together. As colourful bricks clicked into place, so too did new understandings of leadership, patience, and teamwork. Moments of confusion quickly turned into laughter and triumph, proving that collaboration transcends words.

In the reflection session that followed, participants shared their takeaways — from learning to trust their teammates to realising the power of non-verbal communication. Mr Daly closed the session by reminding everyone that such soft skills are not just for the classroom, but are invaluable in every professional setting.

The Lego Challenge Workshop was more than just a fun activity — it was a hands-on lesson in unity, resilience, and problem-solving. By the end of the day, every participant walked away with more than just a Lego masterpiece; they built stronger connections and a deeper appreciation for teamwork.
