On 27 July 2026, students from the Mechatronics Engineering and Computer Science programs at UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College had the privilege of visiting Greatech Batu Kawan Plant 2, gaining meaningful first‑hand exposure to the industry. The visit offered valuable insights into Greatech’s operations, engineering practices, and career opportunities. Greatech is a leading automation solutions provider, specialising in advanced manufacturing systems for global industries.

The program began with a warm welcome and an introduction to Greatech’s company profile by Ms Carmen Ding (Human Resources Business Partner), who provided students with an overview of the organisation, its operations, and the exciting opportunities available within.

Students then received technical insights from engineers in the Life Science Department, who shared their experiences in design project workflows, mechanical design skillsets, available resources, and the practical considerations involved in translating engineering concepts into real‑world solutions. This helped students better understand how technical knowledge and problem‑solving skills are applied in an industry environment.

The visit continued with a plant tour led by the Thin Film Department, where students were introduced to the production process flow and gained a closer look at the machines and systems involved in manufacturing. This exposure allowed them to connect classroom learning with actual industrial applications.

Ms Carmen Ding also introduced students to the Greatech Young Engineering Program (YEP), highlighting the career opportunities, benefits, and professional development prospects available to young engineering talents joining Greatech.

Industry exposure such as this plays a vital role in helping students understand workplace expectations, explore potential career pathways, and gain a clearer perspective on how their academic knowledge can be applied to real‑world engineering and technology challenges.
