We are thrilled to celebrate a phenomenal achievement by the Department of Mass Communication at UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College. On 28 November 2025, our talented staff and students took home two prestigious honours at the Malaysia PR Awards 2025, showcasing our commitment to both social impact and academic excellence.

The department received the Bronze Award in the Institution of Higher Learning and Cultural Institution category for the impactful Project STARS (Striving To Achieve Respect and Safety). Led by Senior Lecturer Mr Andrew Wilfred and carried out with students from the BA (Hons) in Public Relations program, the project featured a wide range of initiatives, including workshops for more than 1,200 students across Penang, the publication of a book, and the launch of a dedicated website.

The celebrations continued as final-year PR student Avi Tang secured the Silver Award for her winning piece, “From Seed to Legacy: Gen Z’s Call for Respect, Creativity, and Purpose in the Workplace.” Reflecting on her win, Avi noted that her work was inspired by the philosophy that “good bosses lead the way they want to be led.”

“I was equally surprised and grateful that my work was recognised by leading public relations professionals in the industry,” Avi shared. “More importantly, I am happy to have contributed an achievement to the Department of Mass Communication.”

The Malaysia PR Awards 2025 brought together a vibrant mix of participants from across the communications industry. Participating universities included foreign branch universities and private & public universities in Malaysia, alongside corporate companies and leading PR agencies, creating a dynamic environment of collaboration and excellence.
