Engineering Students Dive into 3D Innovation with HP Malaysia Manufacturing

By UOW Malaysia

On 19 June 2026, 33 UOW Malaysia KDU Penang Engineering students gathered at Batu Kawan campus for an immersive journey into the future of engineering. The 3D Printing Workshop, conducted by the expert team from HP Malaysia Manufacturing (HPMM) — a global leader in advanced manufacturing technologies — transformed the lab into a hub of innovation and discovery.

Students didn’t just learn about additive manufacturing; they experienced it. From exploring design considerations to seeing real‑world industrial applications, the workshop bridged classroom theory with industry practice. Interactive discussions with HPMM trainers — Mr Yong Yi, Tan (3D Team Lead), Mr Jaden Ch’ng (Process Engineer), Ms Yet Moon, Tan (3D Design Expert Plastic Focal), and Mr Chuan Cheng, Wong (Ron) (UOW Malaysia Engineering Student, former HPMM Intern) — sparked curiosity and encouraged students to think like engineers tackling real challenges.

We also extend sincere appreciation to Mr Kok Seong Ng (Strategic Planning Manager, HPMM) and Mr Soon Hock Foong (Product Reliability Engineering Manager, HPMM) for their presence, leadership, and strong support in making this collaboration possible. Their commitment to industry‑academia engagement reflects HPMM’s dedication to developing future engineering talent.

The session underscored the importance of industry‑academia collaboration in shaping future‑ready graduates. By engaging directly with professionals, students gained practical insights and confidence to apply their knowledge in meaningful ways.

UOWMKDU Penang expressed heartfelt gratitude to HPMM for their continued partnership, which enriches students’ exposure to cutting‑edge technologies and equips them with the skills needed to thrive in tomorrow’s workforce.
