From 8 to 11 October 2024, the University of Wollongong Malaysia, Glenmarie campus hosted its annual Fitspiration Week, themed “Empower Your Fitspiration Journey.” This engaging event brought together students, lecturers, and staff, fostering a sense of community while promoting physical fitness and healthy competition through a variety of sports.
Building Team Identity
The event featured a unique structure with participants grouped into sports houses: Red (School of Business and Professional Accountancy Centre), Pink (School of Engineering and Hospitality), Green (School of Computing, Law, and Social Science), and Blue (School of Communication and Nursing). This division encouraged teamwork and school spirit, as participants rallied to support their teams, celebrating victories and learning valuable lessons in sportsmanship.
A Celebration of Sports and Community
Fitspiration Week kicked off with an exciting atmosphere in the Dato’ Teo Hang Sam Auditorium, where students competed in badminton, volleyball, and netball. Additional events were held in the multipurpose court, featuring futsal, basketball, and other engaging activities. The opening day set a lively tone, with participants showcasing their skills and fostering friendships through sport.
Each day offered a range of sports, including thrilling dodgeball and basketball matches, highlighting athleticism and strategy. The inclusion of netball underscored the importance of female participation in athletics, promoting inclusivity and encouraging all students to engage in physical activity.
Celebrating Achievements
The week concluded with a fun-filled tele-match, featuring traditional games like tug of war and sack races, culminating in a closing ceremony at the Stairs of Hope. Medals and trophies were awarded to the winning teams, recognising their hard work and dedication.
The Red House emerged as champions, exemplifying teamwork and determination throughout the competitions. Their victory not only celebrated their athletic skills but also fostered a sense of pride and unity among participants.
Promoting a Culture of Fitness
Fitspiration Week was crucial in promoting fitness and well-being within the university community. By encouraging students to engage in physical activities, the event reinforced the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle while fostering lasting friendships.
