Innovate. Create. Impact. @ UOW Malaysia SDG Competition

The Department of Computing at UOW Malaysia Batu Kawan Campus successfully hosted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Final Year Project Competition 2026 on 9 May 2026. The event, participated by 21 final-year postgraduate Computing students and 16 staff members from the Departments of Computing and Engineering, was also attended by members of the public. The competition served as a platform for students to showcase innovative, technology-driven projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event was officiated by Professor Dr Yeap Gik Hong, Head of School, School of Engineering, Computing and Built Environment, while the closing address was delivered by Dr Wong Khang Siang, Head of Department, Department of Computing. The competition was further strengthened by the participation of distinguished industry judges, namely Mr Chris Cheah from Intel Malaysia, Mr Ooi Wooi Jin from Vitrox Corporation Berhad, Mr Tan Chang Teong from UST Global (M) Sdn. Bhd., and Ms Teh Sher Lynn from Abeam Consulting Malaysia.

Participants impressed the judging panel with projects featuring artificial intelligence, augmented reality, smart systems, and sustainable digital solutions aimed at addressing real-world challenges. The winners of the competition were:

Wireless UUT Photo Documentation and Metadata Embedding System with AI-Assisted Suggestion

Consolation Prize: Teh Sin Yee
Augmented Reality (AR) Virtual Clothing Try-On E-commerce Mobile Application (PinkieWadrobe)

The competition highlighted UOW Malaysia’s commitment to fostering innovation, sustainability awareness, and industry-relevant skills, while inspiring students to develop impactful solutions for a more sustainable and equitable future.
