UOW Malaysia’s School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (SHTCA) conducted a series of events in February 2025 aimed at inspiring young students to pursue careers in culinary arts, providing them with hands-on experience and career insights.
On 20 February 2025, 25 students and 5 teachers from SMK Taman Bukit Maluri participated in a Pastry and Baking Workshop. The secondary school students learned the fundamentals of pastry-making, including preparing choux pastry and custard cream, which they used to create delicious cream puffs.The culinary exploration continued on 21 February 2025 at Kolej Vokasional Dato’ Undang Haji Muhamad Sharip, Rembau, Negeri Sembilan when 32 students and 2 teachers took part in the Chocolate Art Workshop. This hands-on session allowed students to develop their creativity by learning advanced chocolate decoration techniques.
The series culminated in the Kolej Vokasional Rembau Campus Visit and Career Talk on 26 February 2025, where 32 students and 2 teachers gained valuable insights into the field of hospitality, tourism, and culinary arts. Presentations by UOW Malaysia staff, including Dato’ Fazley Yaakob, Adjunct Associate Professor, SHTCA and Chef Arif, Suka Sucre’s Sous Chef provided students with a clearer understanding of potential career paths in the industry.
These events successfully ignited students’ passion for culinary arts and inspired them to explore their creative potential and career aspirations.
