The Department of Mass Communication at UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College recently hosted the highly anticipated Social Media Showdown: Life in Penang competition, an exciting event that showcased the talents of its students. Sponsored and co-organised with Teleperformance Malaysia, the competition was a celebration of creativity, encouraging participants to express their ideas through captivating video content.
Centred on the vibrant theme of Life in Penang, students crafted compelling narratives highlighting the island’s unique culture, culinary delights, and everyday life. The event kicked off with an inspiring speech by the Vice-Chancellor of UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College, Professor Dr Chong Beng Keok, followed by the much-awaited prize-giving ceremony, where students were recognised for their creative achievements.

Another highlight of the day was the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between UOW Malaysia KDU Penang and Teleperformance Malaysia, marking a key step in strengthening industry-academic collaboration. The MOA was signed by Professor Dr Chong Beng Keok and Mr Michael Costevec, Chief of Staff at Teleperformance.
Mr Costevec also delivered an engaging career talk, providing students with insights into industry trends and offering practical advice for aspiring professionals.
More than just a competition, the Social Media Showdown: Life in Penang was a platform for students to explore their creative potential, enhance their digital storytelling skills, and connect with industry leaders. This successful event underscores the Department of Mass Communication’s dedication to nurturing talent and empowering students through meaningful partnerships for the future.
