On 18 April 2026, 19 students from the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (SHTCA) at UOW Malaysia Glenmarie Campus, together with lecturer Ms Azwa Binti Azhar, took part in the SeaNergy Beach Cleaning Activity at Pantai Remis, Jeram, Kuala Selangor.
The initiative was organised to promote environmental awareness and encourage students to actively engage in sustainability and community service. With the shoreline as their learning ground, participants experienced first-hand the importance of preserving public recreational areas and coastal environments.
The programme began with a light warm-up session, followed by a safety briefing to ensure all participants understood the designated coverage areas and responsibilities. Students were then divided into groups and carried out trash collection activities along the beach. From plastics to miscellaneous debris, the teams worked diligently to gather and dispose of waste responsibly.
The highlight of the day was the successful collection of 100.93 kg of trash, a remarkable achievement that reflected the students’ teamwork, commitment, and growing sense of environmental stewardship. The activity concluded with a reflective closing session, where participants regrouped to share their experiences and reinforce the importance of sustainable practices.
This initiative not only strengthened the students’ bond with the community but also underscored UOW Malaysia’s commitment to nurturing graduates who are socially responsible and environmentally conscious.
