On 22 June 2024, UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College hosted their 3rd Technicolour Multicultural Festival at the Batu Kawan Campus, Penang. The event was inaugurated by the esteemed Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Chow Kon Yeow, alongside State EXCO for Tourism & Creative Economy, YB Wong Hon Wai, State Exco for Youth, Sport and Health, YB Gooi Zi Sen,  State Exco for Local Government and Town Country Planning, YB H’ng Mooi Lye, Penang State Education Director, Tuan Haji Abdul Said Bin Hussain, Social Welfare Department Director, Tuan Zakaria Bin Taib, Director in the Penang State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia Office, Dr Annuar bin Mohamed and the Vice Chancellor of UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College, Professor Dr. Chong Beng Keok.

The Technicolor Multicultural Festival is an annual celebration of diversity, culture, and unity. In collaboration with Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Pulau Pinang (JPNPP), this event is also supported by Penang State Tourism & Creative Economy (PETACE) and Jabatan Kebajikan Negeri Pulau Pinang (JKM). It brings together communities from different cultural and geographic backgrounds to share their multicultural spirit through live performances, culinary delights, cultural exhibits, and more. The festival promotes understanding, tolerance, and appreciation of the rich tapestry of cultures in the state. The festival is more than a celebration of cultures, as it carries a deeper purpose of raising awareness about social poverty and the myriad challenges faced by the underprivileged. Through this event, we hope to ignite the spirit of volunteerism among our students, inspiring them to actively contribute to the betterment of society. We also aim to generate funds to support the underprivileged in Penang.

Activities at the festival included traditional dances, orchestral performances, singing duets, and a diverse range of cultural exhibitions. More than 70 food trucks and stalls offered a variety of cuisines, while competitions in painting, theater, short film, and singing showcased the artistic talents of students. JPNPP organised 11 competitions “Pertandingan Kesenian Peringkat Negeri Pulau Pinang”. The winner of each category will represent Penang to compete at the National level.

At the event’s conclusion, it had provided a fulfilling experience for all attendees, fostering unity, community upliftment, and a celebration of diversity while promoting social responsibility.
