By UOW Malaysia

The University of Wollongong Malaysia (UOWM) came alive with ideas, energy and ingenuity as it hosted EuFiRE 2025 – the Engineering Research Symposium and International Fusion Invention Research Exhibition, marking its 7th Engineering Research Symposium and 3rd International Fusion Invention Research Exhibition, on 27 November 2025 at its Glenmarie Campus.

Jointly organised with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), the event attracted nearly 200 participants, including primary and secondary school students, undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, and professionals from both local and international institutions. EuFiRE 2025 served as a vibrant platform for showcasing cutting-edge research, bold innovations and practical solutions to real-world challenges.

The opening ceremony set an inspiring tone for the symposium, with welcoming remarks by the Chairman of EuFiRE 2025, an opening address by Professor Ts. Dr Mohd Rosli Hainin, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, and an officiating speech delivered by Professor Dr Hiew Pang Leang, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wollongong Malaysia. A thought-provoking keynote by Dr Sasha Nikolic, Senior Lecturer at the University of Wollongong, Australia, challenged participants to rethink learning through his address, “CAC Co-intelligence: Learning with AI, not from it!”

The exhibition floor buzzed with activity as innovators presented projects ranging from AI-powered systems and smart warehousing solutions to sustainable energy, green manufacturing and bioluminescent lighting. Collaborative projects between UOWM and UTM stood out, highlighting the strength of inter-university research partnerships and their potential to drive meaningful impact.

EuFiRE 2025 concluded with an awards ceremony celebrating excellence, with numerous Gold and Silver Medals recognising outstanding innovation, originality and technical merit. UOWM staff and students were among the award winners with innovative projects, reflecting the creativity and talent fostered at the university. More than a competition, EuFiRE 2025 reaffirmed UOWM’s commitment to research excellence, collaboration and sustainable development, and left participants inspired to push boundaries even further.
