Students from the University of Wollongong Malaysia (UOWM) made a strong impact at the RE:ACT – CSR & SDG Pitching Competition 2025, held on 3 December at Xiamen University Malaysia, which drew over 500 attendees and featured 14 teams from 9 other universities.
Representing the School of Communication and Creative Arts, the Zero Hunger – Meals of Hope team—comprising Sherllyn Sephrenia Sunny Anak Sherman, Nur Aisyah Azizi and Natasha Ann Miranda—clinched the Champion title in Category B (Best CSR and Sustainability Project). Their socially driven initiative addresses food insecurity through youth volunteerism and community partnerships. The project aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on Zero Hunger, Responsible Consumption and Partnerships, and was guided by Ms Suzie Yanti Muhamad Lagis.
UOWM also secured a Bronze Award in Category A (CSR and Sustainability Project Idea) through the Kira-Kira team, represented by Wong Zhi Yi, Tarani Gunasaigan and Eng Jhun Hao. The team presented a forward-looking CSR proposal aimed at empowering gig workers through skills training, entrepreneurship and financial planning. The project supports the goals of Quality Education and Decent Work and was supervised by Associate Professor Murina Rose Pawanteh.
All participating students are enrolled in UOWM’s communication programs, underscoring the university’s commitment to experiential learning, social impact and sustainability-focused education.
These achievements highlight UOWM’s growing influence in championing responsible communication and purpose-driven innovation.
