UOW Malaysia Cultivates Youth Eco-Awareness

By UOW Malaysia

On 1 April 2026, the School of Communication and Creative Arts at UOW Malaysia facilitated a vibrant Workshop on Ecosystems at Sekolah Kebangsaan Petaling Jaya. Funded by the Inovasi Grant, this initiative brought together 50 participants, including primary students and teachers.

The project aims to foster greater environmental awareness among youth by emphasising the importance of integrating wildlife habitats with human life. Through workshops and a public theatre performance, it encourages young participants to explore themes of biodiversity, sustainability, and wildlife preservation in a creative, collaborative setting.

The Ecosystem Awareness Workshop was designed as an engaging, participatory learning experience that moved beyond traditional classroom methods, guiding students through two progressive phases from foundational understanding to creative expression. In the first phase, students explored key ecosystem concepts through interactive physical exercises, guided presentations, and hands-on activities, fostering curiosity, participation, and reflection through discussion and question-and-answer sessions. In the second phase, they translated their learning into singing, movement, and art-based activities, with rehearsals and presentations helping to build confidence while reinforcing understanding through performance and collaboration.

Overall, the workshop adopted a holistic approach that seamlessly integrated knowledge, engagement, and creativity, effectively preparing students for their upcoming prelude performance.
