UOW Malaysia Smashes It with Badminton Championship 2025

The shuttlecocks were flying, the cheers were loud, and the competitive spirit was high as UOW Malaysia hosted its Badminton Championship 2025 on 8–9 July at the Glenmarie Campus.

With 43 student and staff participants battling it out across four categories—Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, and Women’s Doubles—the two-day tournament showcased talent, teamwork, and plenty of electrifying rallies under the fitting theme, “Smash Your Way to Victory!”.

Organised by the Engineering Society (ES) with support from the School of Engineering (SOE) and the Student & Alumni Centre (SAC), the event was led with passion and guided by Ms Gee Chia Chen (ES Club Advisor). Co-hosts Mr Gerard Balavendrian (ES Vice President) and Mr Lim Jun Chi (ES Secretary) kept the energy flowing, while Ms Foo Huey Shin (Assistant Manager, SAC) and Dr Goh Thing Thing (Academic Department Head, SOE) graced the occasion, underscoring the importance of student-led initiatives.

The two-day tournament was filled with energy, sportsmanship, and cheers under the theme “Smash Your Way to Victory!”. Generous support from Mr Lim Pau Siang (Foong Seng Electrical Sdn. Bhd.), Mr Alan Oh Boon Chin (Mosaic Expert Sdn. Bhd.), Mr Gan Jay Theing (Student, SOE) and the SAC made the event possible with quality equipment and prizes.

The courts were ablaze with intense matches and inspiring sportsmanship. Here’s how the medals were claimed:

The championship wrapped up with a lively prize-giving ceremony, leaving players and spectators inspired and already looking forward to next year’s edition.
