UOW Malaysia proudly celebrates the achievement of Foundation student Alia Ayeesha, who represented Malaysia at the 20th Asia Youth International Model United Nations (AYIMUN), held from 16 to 19 January 2026. AYIMUN is an international Model United Nations conference organised by the International Global Network (IGN), bringing together youth to simulate global diplomacy and debate pressing world issues.
Bringing together over 1,200 delegates from across the globe, the conference provided a platform for students to engage in high-level discussions on global issues. Alia was selected to represent Malaysia in the World Health Organisation (WHO) Council, where she addressed the pressing issue of combating vaccine inequity in low-income and crisis-affected regions.
Beyond committee sessions, Alia was also featured as a performer at the opening ceremony gala, performing before an audience of ambassadors, diplomats, and international delegates. In recognition of her contribution, she received a USD100 scholarship for future international conferences.
Throughout the conference, Alia actively participated in negotiations and resolution drafting. While consensus was not reached during the final voting session, the experience reflected the complexities of real-world diplomacy and strengthened her ability to navigate diverse perspectives in high-pressure environments.
A video capturing highlights of her participation can be viewed here: Highlights.
Alia’s accomplishment underscores the strength of UOW Malaysia’s Pre-University programme in developing confident, globally aware students equipped with critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills.
