Where Learning and Industry Expertise Converge

By UOW Malaysia

UOW Malaysia endeavours to strengthen its ties with industry leaders, providing students with valuable hands-on experiences and insights into the latest technological trends.

In a recent collaboration with HP Manufacturing Malaysia (HPMM), 14 final-year Engineering and Computing students had the chance to participate in the HPMM Spark Program in Batu Kawan. This immersive bootcamp allowed students to explore cutting-edge industry practices, tackle real-world challenges, and receive mentorship from professionals. It provided them with a deeper understanding of the fast-paced tech and engineering sectors, enhancing their problem-solving skills and equipping them with the knowledge needed to succeed in their careers.

The university also facilitated a fascinating session with Mr Poo Chee Shen, Senior Automation Engineer at Micron Malaysia. Held at UOW Malaysia’s Batu Kawan campus and live-streamed to Georgetown, the session explored how technologies like robotics, automation, IoT, and AI are reshaping manufacturing into a more data-driven, efficient process. 50 Engineering and Computing students engaged in an interactive Q&A, gaining invaluable insights into the industry’s future trends and challenges.

In addition, UOW Malaysia organised an informal coffee talk with industry professionals from Micron Malaysia, Invest Penang, and other key players in the field. Over 80 students attended, exchanging ideas with experts and discovering career opportunities at Micron, as well as scholarship options available through Invest Penang. These informal gatherings create a dynamic platform for students to connect with industry leaders and explore potential career paths.

UOW Malaysia’s commitment to bridging education with industry was further highlighted at the “Future Engineer Forum,” part of the 40th International Electronics Manufacturing Technology (IEMT) Conference at G Hotel, Penang. Staff and a group of 10 students attended keynotes from semiconductor industry captains and participated in discussions on the future of semiconductor and electronic packaging industries. They also had the opportunity to visit exhibition booths and engage with the latest products and technologies.

These initiatives reflect UOW Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to provide students with real-world industry exposure, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the evolving demands of the global tech landscape.
