Professor Dr Yeap Gik Hong Email: [email protected] Prof. Dr. Yeap is currently the Head of Operations (Batu Kawan Campus) and Head of Engineering, Computing & Built Environment School at UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College, part of University of Wollongong Australia Global Enterprises Global Network of Campuses. Dr Yeap Gik Hong received his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Polytechnic (POLIMAS) in 2001. In conjunction with the 15th Convocation of POLIMAS, he received the Best Engineering Graduate Award from the Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’Adzam Shah. After working in Singapore for 1.5 years, he further his study to UK and received BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Systems from the University of Lincoln in 2003 with First Class Honours. He also won the Valeac Prize for the Best Control Project on a Final Year for his academic work in the university. He later obtained his MSc in Advanced Materials and Manufacturing from the University of Hull, UK in 2006 with Distinction. In September 2005, he was awarded the PhD Studentship and obtained his PhD in Electronics Engineering degree from the University of Hull in 2010. Dr. Yeap is a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council of the United Kingdom. He contributed actively to the Institute of Engineering and Technology UK (MIET), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers USA (SMIEEE), Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). He is currently the Vice Chair of IEEE Penang Joint Chapter, Secretary of Malaysia TRIZ Innovation Association (MyTRIZ) and Committee Member of the IEM Electronic Engineering Technical Division (eETD). He also served as Industry Advisory Panel member for Politeknik Balik Pulau (PBU) between September 2016 to September 2021. Dr Yeap is a certified and accredited public trainer under HRDCorp, International TRIZ Association (MATRIZ) Level 3 Practitioner, MyTRIZ Level 3 Practitioner and licensed MyTRIZ trainer. Dr. Yeap actively promotes problem-solving, creativity, and innovation skills development among students, academia, and industry practitioners. The engineering students and staff trained won international awards at the Global Competition and Exhibition in Systematic Innovation by San Jose State University California 2014 and regional MyTRIZ Competition in 2014 and 2018. He was instrumental in co-organized the MyTRIZ Conference 2020 at UOWM KDUPG and co-edited the Conference Proceedings publication. He was invited to share his learnings on upskilling problem-solving and innovative skills at the MyTRIZ Conference 2022 Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He has also presented a paper at the TRIZFest 2024 in Sarawak, Malaysia. With his achievements from applying TRIZ methodology, he has been awarded the “Productivity Champion” by the Malaysian Productivity Corporation (MPC) on 15th October 2018. He has actively promoting the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) among his students with the intention to improve the problem solving skills, creativity and innovation level of the students. The team led by Dr Yeap has won UOW GE Global Values Awards 2020 under the Innovation (Team) category for the development of the innovative Virtual Open Day platform to host the academic institution’s Open Day virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Yeap is passionate about research in the fields of semiconductors, robotics, renewable energy, and industrial automation. He has published and shared many research papers in international journals and conferences.
