Living in Penang for six years while studying at UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College was one of the best parts of my life.

It was an honour to be alumni of UOW Malaysia and my greatest pleasure to choose this institution for my further studies after high school.

While doing my Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering at UOW Malaysia (Penang campus), I learned about Engineering and the skills needed to survive in the real world. I would like to thank all my lecturers at the Engineering department for always being helpful and delivering world-class lectures. Not to forget all the other staff from different departments at UOW Malaysia who were always there to assist me in every way they could during my time with the institution. For that, I will always be grateful.

Overall, Penang is really an excellent place to live in even for an international student like me. Plus, UOW Malaysia  offers good scholarship opportunities for students and maintains a world-class education system.

I feel that I have grown as an individual by being an international student.

When I first arrived on UOW Malaysia (Selangor campus), I was terrified. Not only was I starting University, but I was in a foreign country where I didn’t know anyone or even speak the language. But my worries were put to rest almost immediately; every member of staff was incredibly kind and helpful, from the lecturers to the campus guards. I have gotten a chance to meet so many different people from different cultures. Whilst there are many differences across different cultures, I learnt that at the root of it all, all of us have similarities that bond us together. I feel that I have grown as an individual by being an international student. My education here has not only been for the course I am enrolled in, but the life lessons that I obtain through my experience here.

The experience of studying in Malaysia has been a valuable asset for me.

As an international student, I found my university life very easy to adapt to quickly. This is due to the warm and friendly students, the strict but humorous lecturers and the conscientious staff who have made it a comfortable learning environment for us. UOW Malaysia is an interesting and fantastic place for us to study and live in. When I had difficulties in my studies, the lecturers were enthusiastic in explaining and double-checking that I really had fully grasped the solutions to the problems. I always feel that UOW Malaysia is a warm and diverse family, and I have made friends with many people from different countries, colours, and cultures. My advice to students – Have a right attitude towards our study and life so we can win a rich and colourful experience in our College life.

Being multi-cultured from the beginning living in Dubai, studying in Malaysia gave me a chance to live another multi-cultural experience.

Due to the pandemic, it has definitely been hard to adjust to the new learning styles but UOW Malaysia has always tried to make us feel secure and safe, and they have succeeded greatly. As a Culinary Management Student, I have been given the opportunity to learn, gain experience and knowledge from some of the best-skilled chefs that are giving their time to teach us at UOW Malaysia. It has showered me with an opportunity to study alongside locals and more international students who all bring their different cultures to make a happy classroom even when the situation of the world was sad. Making friends even without the pandemic was hard, but now with the addition on the pandemic it made it even harder, but due to the class sizes in UOW Malaysia’s culinary classes it gave us a chance to grow closer and build friendships that would last our whole University life. I could not ask for a better University experience and I am looking forward to getting back on campus to learn from the best-skilled chefs at UOW Malaysia.

I have had a unique experience here for the last three years, I feel that campus life is more than just studying.

You can share knowledge and exchange culture with other international students or local students. There are many opportunities to learn beyond the classroom, campus usually offers activities and meetings, to broaden students’ perspectives and promote relationships between students as well. Integrating into campus life is not as hard as I imagined before, people around are always there to help you solve your problems, you can seek help from everywhere, such as SAC, lecturers, and your classmates, etc. My advice to students – Enjoy your campus life, have fun and be cool! Of course, the most important thing is to seize the opportunities to learn knowledge and cultures from your lecturers and other students, these will benefit your whole life.

When I came to Malaysia for the first time, I worried that I couldn’t adapt to everything here.

I am worried that I can’t make friends but the facts have proved that my worries were unnecessary. I have met many friends in schools. They are very keen to help me, so I can quickly adapt to life here. The teachers here are also very friendly. Even if my English is not very good, they can also communicate with me patiently and teach me a lot of knowledge. As a major hotel management, I learnt how to manage the hotel through practice and theoretical courses, how to properly provide services, and even how to learn to make desserts and beverages. This experience will help my future life and work. My advice to students is to meet challenges, and they should not be afraid of failure and can cope with setbacks.

A homey and comfortable learning environment

Especially for me as a Hospitality student, I feel special that the school was equipped with a magnificent restaurant, part of a hotel, kitchens and beds which made the learning and experience more authentic. The facilities of this school are wonderful in terms of comfort and convenience that also motivates me to study and practice hard. Not only the facilities but also the lecturers and staff here helped me a lot. Another important experience for me was the many international friends I made in the accommodation and the seniors I met through club activities. I came abroad alone with anxiety, and their presence was indispensable to me. My advice to students – Take advantage of the opportunity as much as you can.

As an international student, I felt lonely in a foreign country in the first few months after I arrived at the University because I was not familiar with my classmates and had no friends. Fortunately, my roommates and classmates were very warm, which made me adapt quickly. In terms of study, lecturers are very patient to answer my questions, students would help each other, I also slowly find their own way of learning. At the same time, I am very curious and looking forward to the practical classes that have been temporarily suspended due to the epidemic.

The study and life experience at UOW Malaysia has made me a better person.

As an international student who is about to graduate, I can say that the experience within these 3 years learning period in UOW Malaysia has been extraordinary. The students and lecturers here are more friendly and kinder than you think in the first place, they will always lend out a hand and provide encouragement to me without hesitation. I am also able to enjoy the fun in learning subjects in the way of combining theoretical and practical topics, and the result of it is gaining abilities for instance, being able to fit in and participate in a group project, able to plan ahead for time schedules for the whole week, able to nourish the ability to create, so on and so forth. There was once a lecturer who said something that moved us, let me share it with you, “You’re here to learn, the exam is just the exam”. So do not hesitate to explore the world, you might learn more than you have already known.

I never thought that I would be studying abroad but here I am in one of the best Universities in Malaysia, UOW Malaysia. I was so excited to travel, explore Malaysia or even join any school event and make new friends but unfortunately, COVID 19 pandemic happened. However, that doesn’t stop UOW Malaysia from hosting school events virtually. UOW Malaysia’s lecturers and chefs are very helpful and easy for me to approach if I have any questions regarding my studies. I took a culinary course, and the chefs are very talented and always share new techniques and recipes throughout my studies here. One tip from me as an international student is don’t be afraid to explore new things and make new friends!

Life in UOW Malaysia is full of ups and downs, but it is still an enjoyable one.

Landing here in Malaysia to study means I’ll have to be independent with no family or friends. I’m all on my own. Being so used to being around my family back in my home country is obviously making it a little hard to adapt to living in a foreign country, but with all the friendly people and support that I got from those around me – the staff, lecturers and friends, I slowly got back on my feet. My studies are going pretty well. Those laboratory exercises and projects are fulfilling with the guidance from the lecturers alongside the variety of equipment and instruments. The practical hands-on activities either in groups or individual could equip me with the practical skills which are required by the industry. Conducting the hands-on activities with both physical and virtual materials also requires focus. It promotes deeper thinking and understanding which helps in fostering the development of knowledge and skills. It gives me proper preparation for my future career. My advice to students – Be open to unfamiliar surroundings, manage your time, don’t put off till tomorrow for what can be done today, make good connections and establish positive lifelong habits.

My 4 Years Journey at UOW Malaysia has been an absolutely exciting and Life-Changing experience.

I joined UOW Malaysia (Penang campus) because they offer various scholarships for International Students and the Industrial Recognized Electronic Engineering Course. Moreover, there is a 3-month Industry Internship Program that provides Industrial Experience while studying.

Besides excellent curriculum, UOW Malaysia also provides well-equipped laboratory facilities and online library. There are different labs for Engineering Students, and all labs are equipped with industrial software and tools to work on a variety of projects. My favourite part of being a student here is that the Career & Placement Centre always arranges Industrial Site Visits for students for learning and exposure to different Engineering Professions. Moreover, the Department of Engineering would regularly organize Technical workshops or Competitions where students can engage with industrial experts. Last but not least, the institution would always organize Internal Job Career Fairs (twice a year) for fresh graduate students to secure a job place before Graduation.

The lecturers, support staff, and administration staff are easy to approach and always provide excellent counselling and helpful guidance.

Looking back, I believed those extracurricular activities I participated in throughout the year had helped me to secure my job position before even graduating.

What I liked most about the Certificate in English Language program were the enrichment activities.

This is because students from different classes could get together and play language games.

This gave me the chance to talk to them in order to improve my English. I also befriended students from different countries. We had many unforgettable experiences such as the trip to Melaka or just going to watch a movie or having a meal together.
