Utropolis Glenmarie Campus

The Teo Soo Pin Library has adopted an industrial style approach, in aligned with the overall campus design, for its space which spans over two floors. Neutral tones, metal and wood were used to give a raw, unfinished warehouse look to it. It is filled with modern-design furnishings, enhanced with electrical outlets to power up mobile phones and other electronic devices.

Different zones are introduced to meet expectations of library users with different study needs. Library users will notice a change in furniture selections to support specific kinds of activities in these zones to create a conducive study atmosphere.

Seating at the first floor allows library users to enjoy the peaceful views of the greenery, to study and read in the midst of the bustling Interactive Zone of the Library. Learning Pods, Meeting Pods and Study Lounge are equipped with video-conferencing facilities. Library users can use these spaces for collaborative work and discussions.

It even has a Coffee Bar that is cosy, an ideal place for library users to take a break and unwind with a hot drink after hours of studying, or just to pop in for a quick cup of coffee before class. In addition, there is an outdoor seating area next to it, looking out towards the building’s façade, providing an alfresco respite from all the studying.

Library users can easily check out library materials using the self-service checkout station. A book drop located outside of the Library’s main entrance is available to library users who wish to return books outside of the normal opening hours.

In contrast to the loud activities around the campus, the Quiet Zone which located in the second floor of the Library is a quiet oasis, probably the most sought-after area by users who want a whisper-only environment. This space is equipped with individual study carrels, Study Pods and a Brainstorming Room, allowing users to undertake reflective study in the tranquil space.

Batu Kawan Campus

The Library serves as a gateway to comprehensive collection of printed and non-printed materials to support learning and research for its users.

In a complete contrast to design concept of its counterpart at Utropolis Glenmarie, there is a noticeable change of colours selection to the Library at Batu Kawan. It has two floors, provides views of a garden, offers a mixture of comfortable group and individual study spaces. The facilities and furniture are in vibrant and eye-catching colours, yielding a lively feel, informal and even playful space conducive to creative thinking. Electrical outlets for electronic devices use are scattered around.

The ground floor has a modern indoor learning stage, where it not only encourages spontaneous expressions and ad hoc-based use, it could also be transformed into a setting for real-time culture events. AV Room and Multipurpose Room are available for reservation by academic staff to conduct classes or discussions. Self-service checkout station is made available for easy check out of library materials. Users can return Library materials 24/7 at a book drop conveniently located in front of the Library.

The first floor includes a variety of collaborative seating arrangements, including Idea Pods, Study Pods and Lounge Seating Area.

Set amidst the collaborative environment, individual carrels with opaque panels are generously made available on both floors. This heads-down study space is ideal for library users who want to work without distraction or interruption.

George Town Campus
