Feature Library EXPLORE Library Catalogue Purpose A discovery tool that searches across most of the Library’s resources in one place. Designed for finding journal articles, eBooks, and other online content, as well as print books. The Library’s catalogue system used to locate and check the availability of physical library items (books, DVDs, etc.) and some eBooks. Coverage Searches across: Most subscription databases Journal and magazine articles eBooks and eBook chapters Conference papers Reports Print books (basic catalogue data) Searches only the Library’s local holdings: Print books and their locations Physical multimedia items Some locally hosted eBooks (if linked in the catalogue) Search Scope Broad — pulls in results from multiple publishers, databases, and the Library catalogue at once. Narrow — limited to items physically or electronically held in the Library’s own collection records. Best For Topic-based research across multiple formats Finding journal articles Accessing full-text online resources Starting point for academic research Checking if the Library has a specific book, DVD, or other item Finding location, call number, and availability status for borrowing Full Text Access Often provides direct links to full text for subscribed resources. May link to an eBook if it’s in the catalogue, but otherwise mainly for location info of physical items. Results Filtering Can filter by resource type (articles, eBooks, books, etc.), publication date, subject, language, and more. Can filter mainly by location, format, and availability. Search Behaviour Works more like Google — keyword-based search across multiple metadata fields and full text (where indexed).
