24 Hours To Solve A Social Problem

George Town, 26 April 2018 – THEY had an unlimited supply of snacks, pizzas, caffeine and refreshments for 24 hours, and during that time, they needed to turn a creative technological idea into reality.

N.R. Sriram, a final year computing undergraduate of the School of Computing, UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College (UOW Malaysia KDU Penang), was shortlisted to participate in “hackUST & hardUST”, an international competition held at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology on 21 April and 22 April 2018.

Sriram was teamed up with other participants from China and Hong Kong to develop a prototype to solve a real world problem in 24 hours.

“We created a system called Crypto Learner to address the needs of people from financial institutions or self-learnt traders to understand cryptocurrency such as bitcoins, where you can be a trader to make a transaction or a miner to mine the rare coins.” said Sriram, whose team won the second runnerup prize of UKD$5,000.

He added that this system will promote and educate people about the seemingly mysterious tech in a simple way and cryptocurrency companies will have a to attract investors, after expanding the market base of people who understand the tech.

Sriram, who joined many competitions before this, said being shortlisted in “hackUST & hardUST” is a huge achievement for him to represent Malaysia.

“I felt so happy to get this kind of opportunity. We presented our idea in front of 400 participants and 10 judges.” he expressed.

“The priceless moment that will stay forever with me was when they announced us as the second runner-up.” he added.
