Freshies Night 2023

By UOW Malaysia

On the 23rd of June 2023, from 7.00 pm to 10.00 pm, the Student Council organised an evening event called ‘Freshies Night,’ a dress-up themed (school theme) and casual get-together. This event was held at the Atrium of UOW Malaysia, Glenmarie Campus and the event included live performances, dinner, and fun activities.

The rehearsal for the event started at 5.00 pm and performers from PARTS practiced their dance choreography and musical performance. The emcees and technicians in charge also did their respective preparations prior to the event and ensured all equipment was in working order. The rest of the student council members managed to change their outfits to match the theme and decorated the venue. A golden ‘Freshies Night 2023’ balloon arrangement was set as the stage’s premier background.

The registration table was set up, manned by a few student council members and the reception started at 6.45 pm. At 7.00 pm sharp, the event officially started. Willie Chng, the Business officer of the Student Council, and Kang Jian, the Public Relations Officer of the Student Council, self-introduced themselves and briefed the participants about the itinerary before releasing them for dinner. Dinner consisted of an assortment of vegetables, potato wedges, chicken chops, butter rice, and iced lemon tea. Vegetarian options were also provided. One of the highlights of the night was the free-flowing Ice-cream of assorted flavours served exclusively from an Ice-cream Motorcycle vendor.

At 8.00 pm the event carried on with various performances by the PARTS club and proceeded with a surprise dance performance by Jordan and Rebecca. The performances were then followed by a game’s session, involving dancing and quizzing. From these games, the winners were elected, and the event was then concluded with a mini pageant for the 3 best dressers of the night. Upon the conclusion of the event, a brief photo session was carried out and all participants gathered around to take a group photo, commemorating the eventful night. A cleanup of the venue subsequently took place and borrowed items were returned.

Overall, the event was very successful, garnering exceptional student engagement, bonding, and enjoyment. It has also highlighted the multi-talented and diversely unique nature of the student community at UOW.
