We prepare you to be a global leader The Bachelor of Arts (Hons) International Business Management program in UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College, Batu Kawan provides a broad-based business and management education, with an explicit international focus. This 3 year program is designed to produce business executives who are knowledgeable of responsible business and management within an international context. The global focus in the program design is the recognition that business is increasingly conducted in a dynamic, global environment and that graduates, from both within Malaysia and throughout the world, are required to work across traditional functional boundaries and national borders. Accordingly, this program offers students the opportunity to combine the study of key international business issues with the study of language and cultural issues. A further differentiating element of this program is the provision of business consultancy modules which provide students an understanding, and hands-on experience, of consultancy from the perspective of both the client and the consultant. Students work closely with an external organisation on a ‘real-life’ project in order to develop the skills needed to perform the assigned consultancy task. Besides, the student will be encouraged and supported in their third year spent outside of Malaysia, which can be in a work placement, study abroad or a combination of both these activities. The pilot critical occupation list published by TalentCorp shows that international business degree graduates are highly in demand to fill positions in the job market. Upon graduation, students will have the opportunity to work within international business roles, including being entrepreneurs, consultants, analysts, managers, developers, buyers across various business sectors including services and manufacturing. Why study international business? International business studies will give you insights into the global business and economic climates. It is a course that will be particularly relevant for those who wish to work abroad. With the world’s economy continuing to be more global, the demand for individuals who have insight into business in a global context is high. As international companies face challenges in integrating multiple markets and dealing with diverse workforces, an education in international business will provide you with the skills needed in this arena. Taking up a course on international business will help you learn about cultures and societies as well as tackling problems from a different perspective. All students that are taking business studies are required to undergo the Entrepreneurship module, anchored by the School of Business. In the pursuit of nurturing budding entrepreneurs, the School of Business set up its own Enterprise Centre and partnered with Malaysia Practice Enterprise Centre (MyPEC) for its business simulator program. Under the Entrepreneurship module, students work in teams to run a business and solve its problems and issues in a virtual environment. The simulated set-up allows students to use various web-based applications including the SKOLA trading platform, human resources, administration and marketing platforms; providing students with the opportunity to experience different scenarios that occur in a real-world business environment. This teaches students the various methods of facing different situations, taking calculated risks and learning from failures. Besides the simulated environment, students also go through the process of conceptualising, developing and fine-tuning business ideas, which will be pitched to angel investors. The module is taught by lecturers who have had vast industry experience and who are members of the Malaysian Business Angels Network (MBAN). REAL WORLD EDUCATION WITH INDUSTRY Students at UOW Malaysia’s School of Business are driven to be industry-ready. Essential to their academic learning and experience are our collaborations with industry partners, all designed to ensure our students get an edge above others even before they graduate. Industry Cooperative Education Program Industry partnership through adoption of specific module at UOW Malaysia provides our students an opportunity to network with their potentially future employers and apply classroom learning in real-world situations. In most cases, students will go through a series of training modules – from sessions on financial literacy to retail and customer service insights, people management, and other relevant operational areas. The holistic learning eco-system enables students to create and execute their own business plan, which forms part of the practical student assessment throughout their education journey. UOW Malaysia Job Shadowing Program At UOW Malaysia, we value the need for students to experience the real world instead of just the classroom education. Therefore from as early as Year 1 of their Bachelor’s Degree studies or Year 2 of their Diploma studies, students will have an opportunity to experience the daily operations of a company as well as observe first hand of the challenges that are faced in the respective professions. Through UOW Malaysia Job Shadowing program, students will be able to gain insights about the industry as opposed to just reading general job descriptions. Revolutionary Business Simulation As the world of business transforms rapidly with the adoption of digital economy, the paradigm shift has resulted in greater demand for organisation with soft skills and entrepreneurial mindset. Students’ adaptability of this new era would enhance their innovativeness and productivity, hence contributing in the society development.
